A journey into the mountains, traditions and nomadic landscapes of Kyrgyzstan.

This ten-day journey moves from the capital of Bishkek into some of Kyrgyzstan’s most remarkable landscapes. Follow traces of the Silk Road, travel beside Issyk Kul, explore dramatic valleys and canyons, meet local craftspeople and experience traditions that remain closely connected to the country’s nomadic heritage.

The final part of the journey leaves the road behind for a multi-day horseback route towards Song Kul, with traditional yurt stays, open mountain scenery and time to experience one of Central Asia’s most memorable high-altitude landscapes.

Day 1

Arrival in Bishkek

Arrival assistance and transfer into Bishkek, followed by an introduction to the capital through Ala-Too Square, Oak Park and Victory Square before settling into the first night of the journey.

Day 2

Bishkek to Chon Kemin

Leave the capital for the Kyrgyz countryside, stopping at the historic Burana Tower before continuing into the mountain landscapes of Chon Kemin. In the afternoon, enjoy a gentle horseback excursion through the valley.

Day 3

Chon Kemin to Karakol

Travel along the northern shore of Issyk Kul, surrounded by lake and mountain scenery. Visit an open-air collection of ancient petroglyphs before continuing to Karakol.

Day 4

Altyn Arashan Valley

Leave the main roads behind for an adventurous journey by Soviet-era UAZ into Altyn Arashan, where dramatic alpine landscapes, mountain walks and the peaceful atmosphere of the valley define the day.

Day 5

Jeti Oguz, Skazka Canyon and Bokonbaevo

Travel along the southern side of Issyk Kul, visiting the striking Seven Bulls formations of Jeti Oguz and taking a short walk towards the waterfall before continuing through the colourful landscapes of Skazka Canyon and on to Bokonbaevo.

Day 6

Eagle Traditions and Kochkor

Meet a local eagle hunter and learn about the centuries-old relationship between Kyrgyz hunters and their trained golden eagles, with a traditional demonstration when conditions allow. Continue to Kochkor for a hands-on felt-making experience with local craftspeople.

Day 7

Kochkor to Kyzart — Into the Mountains

Travel towards Kyzart and meet the horses for the beginning of the journey towards Song Kul. Ride through open mountain landscapes to a traditional yurt camp for the first night on the trail.

Day 8

Horseback Journey to Song Kul

Continue on horseback through the highland landscape towards Song Kul, a remote alpine lake more than 3,000 metres above sea level. Arrive at the yurt camp with time to experience the extraordinary setting and learn more about traditional nomadic life.

Day 9

From Song Kul back to Bishkek

Begin the final ride away from Song Kul and descend through the surrounding mountain landscape. Rejoin the road and return to Bishkek, where the journey concludes with a farewell dinner.

Day 10

Departure from Bishkek

Private transfer for onward travel, bringing the journey through Kyrgyzstan’s mountains, lakes and nomadic landscapes to a close.
